Dear GCU Community:
Because of the continuing power outage, Georgian Court will be closed Monday, November 5, 2012. Please continue to check www.georgian.edu and/or wait for additional Connect-Ed messages for information on our status for Tuesday, November 6.
We are remain deeply concerned and prayerful as you–our students, faculty, staff and friends–begin the long process of recovery from Hurricane Sandy.
From Sister Rosemary:
Many of you may have received an e-mail from President Rosemary E. Jeffries, but if you did not get it, it is reprinted below:
Though our Georgian Court campus was spared major damage, we did lose some beautiful old trees. No trees fell into any building! God is good. Our facilities crew are doing an outstanding job clearing the debris, and others on campus have pitched in to help as well.
There are about 60 students who remained on campus, and the convent is full with other some marooned staff and other sisters from the shore towns. The dining staff, security, and facilities staff are terrific and keeping things running as best as possible. The lack of power is the main challenge as it is throughout the state. Local roads and even Route 9 are without traffic lights.
I hope each of you are safe and slowly recovering from a very devastating storm. The challenges of this disruption certainly put into perspective that it is the people in our lives that is important. Please know all of you are held in prayer these days. We have been having 9:00 a.m. Mass each day in the chapel, and each day we remember faculty, staff, and students. We are Georgian Court, and I look forward to seeing you when we reopen.
Rosemary E. Jeffries, RSM, Ph.D.
The GCU Mass of Remembrance
From Sister Mariann Mahon, Director of Campus Ministry
We have scheduled a special Mass of Remembrance for Sunday, November 4, 2012, to be celebrated in the chapel at 5:00 p.m. Members of the GCU community who have experienced the death of their loved ones have planned to attend. There will be mass celebrated at 5 p.m. this Sunday. The Sisters of Mercy and others who are currently on campus plan to attend and to pray for our deceased. Others from off campus are welcome to join us IF traveling safely to campus is possible.
However, we will have a second Mass of Remembrance on Sunday, November 11, at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel. Those who are unable to attend this Sunday because of the aftermath of the storm and safety issues are welcome to join us next weekend as we pray for all of our deceased loved ones.
If possible, please contact Sister Mariann by e-mail at email@example.com.
