On Display: Georgian Court Talent
Lakewood, N.J., January 24, 2013—Georgian Court University art majors Cindy Calixto and Kelsey Cutler are the featured artists for GCU’s senior B.F.A. Graphic Design Exhibition in the university’s M. Christina Geis Art Gallery.
Kelsey, a Gloucester City resident, is passionate about her craft and the fine arts. “Though I do not have immediate career plans,” she said, “my life will always revolve around art and design.”
Her colleague, who is from Tinton Falls, wants to pursue work in the region.
“I hope to have a career in graphic design for an agency in New York or New Jersey,” said Cindy, who will graduate soon with her bachelor’s degree in fine arts.
Cindy’s work caught the attention of several design and creative professionals two years ago when she was named the 2011 JASPER Awards Student Cover Design winner. Her design reflected that year’s theme, “Walk the Red Carpet.” The annual honors are sponsored by JSPRAA, the Jersey Shore Public Relations and Advertising Association, and Cindy received a $500 scholarship for winning the cover design competition.
“Having won the award from JSPRAA was very encouraging,” she said. “I will always be an illustrator and designer; it’s what I love best.”
The senior B.F.A. exhibit continues through Friday, January 25 in the M. Christina Geis Art Gallery, which spotlights works of established and up-and-coming artists in diverse media. The gallery is located on the second floor of the Arts and Science Center on Georgian Court’s Lakewood campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All exhibits are free and open to the public; no reservations are required.
